RUNAWAY TRUCK RAMP
Social Media

nerdfaced:

I think social media has done a lot of good for people, but I think it’s also done just as much harm for people.

I’ve talked to a couple of my friends on here who admitted to me that they are “addicted” to social media, and by that they mean that they are constantly checking Twitter, Tumblr and Facebook all day, and many times into the wee hours of the night because they don’t want to miss anything. One person told me that they find themselves staying up 1-3 hours later each night JUST from being on Tumblr than they used to before they were on Tumblr. That’s a lot of lost sleep, which equals more mood swings, less energy, which generally leads to an unhealthier diet, etc.

Like any addiction this seems rather unhealthy, mainly because the whole “not wanting to miss anything” is more like a high-school mindset. As in, to remain popular you have to be present all the time, and to present all the time (hearting, commenting, posting) you have to be online all the time, and to be online all the time gives you no time to unwind, to have YOU time, to step away from the memes and drama and faceshots and negative posts.

It’s simply not healthy.

Reblogged because some of us need to be reminded of this. It’s OK to disappear for a bit.
