Michael Jordan wants to ”bring the buzz back” to Charlotte.

The Bobcats owner said at a press conference Tuesday evening he’s changing his team’s name to the Charlotte Hornets beginning in 2014-15.

Jordan said he submitted an application to the NBA board of governors earlier Tuesday informing them of his decision and is optimistic the board will approve the name change when they convene in July.

”Let’s bring the buzz back, and bring that energy back on the basketball court and make this city proud again,” Jordan said.

Charlotte will remain the Bobcats next season, but if all goes as planned Jordan anticipates his team will become the Hornets the following season.

Finally. No one liked the Bobcats. The name, the colors…they just weren’t ours. Looking forward to the 2014-15 season. Sure, it’ll just be the same awful Bobcats in better colors, but those colors make everything instantly better.

This is all I want from tomorrow’s Xbox event. Is it likely to happen? Probably not, as a price drop on the 360 will be best saved for E3. Still, having been a Wii-only gamer last generation, I would like to go back and play some of the games I missed, but I refuse to pay $300 to do so. Ideally, I would love for the PlayStation 3 to reach the $99 (or the more likely, $149) price point first as Sony has better exclusives, but hey, beggars can’t be choosy.

Even with my biggest desire being nothing more than a pipe dream, I’ll still be tuning in. It’s always interesting to see what the competition is cooking up.

LOL this reminds me. This week I tried to explain to a CA native friend of mine that a GA native friend of mine is so glad to be leaving so cal. She graduated school and was out like a shot in 2 days. She didn’t mind socal weather but she HATED day to day life with socal people.

A lot of southern folks are so damned polite that they forget it is their culture to be polite and when they leave, they think everyone else is rude as fuck. As a GA native, I see where they are coming from. I am just glad I remember that it isn’t that people are being rude (well, sometimes they are…) but usually it is just a cultural difference.

Southerns represent them manners.

While I’m not doing much today, today is a big day for some of my students. (Yes, we have our graduation on a Monday. It’s weird, I know. Apparently it’s a tradition, but I haven’t been able to find anyone who knows when, where, or why it started. Anyways…) In the past hour, I’ve had three of them drop by to thank me for helping them out when the odds were not in their favor. It’s great to see everything work out in the end as there was a lot of money riding on them graduating through either retracted job offers or another semester of school and no one wanted either of those scenarios to play out. Here’s to them figuring out the real world with a little less difficulty.

Picked this up from Amazon just now for $29.99. I know that’s only $10 off the MSRP, but if you knew how often Nintendo 1st-party titles go on sale, you’d understand why I jumped on this deal ASAP. (The original New Super Mario Bros. for the Nintendo DS came out in 2006 and still carries a price tag of $34.99.) If you’re a 3DS owner, now’s a great time to pick up a title you may have passed on earlier. There’s a lot of great deals going on now, with a surprising number of 1st party games on sale.

As a gamer who is also a lifelong Nintendo fan, I can’t say I’m upset by their decision. From a business perspective, it makes sense. What I am upset by are their childish statements repeatedly driving home their current disdain for the Wii U. You don’t like the Wii U. We get it. No bother though, Nintendo fans don’t care for you either, so there’s no loveloss there. They haven’t made a 3DS game since 2011 - none of us cared.

Nintendo will be fine. They will continue doing what they do. And for better or worse, EA will continue being EA.

It is pretty easy to get stuck/lost in the first half of the game. Wall jumping takes finesse. Play with headphones. Music is sooooo good!

There’s a lot of love for this game. You guys are almost making me wish I had played this before playing Metroid Fusion. Almost. I loved every second of Metroid Fusion. Even so, after playing Super Metroid for only a couple hours, it’s obvious where Fusion got the bulk of its gameplay design from.

Finally! Someone who sees how much of a GOOD thing this could be for the tumblr community. Having been a user of a few different services before they were acquired by Yahoo! (GeoCities, eGropus, LAUNCH, del.icio.us), I was quite excited to see this story come across my dash yesterday. The song’s theme and lyrics are based on Dalton Trumbo’s 1939 novel Johnny Got His Gun, telling the tale of a soldier who is hit by an artillery shell and loses his limbs, eyes, ears and mouth:

Joe Bonham, a young soldier serving in World War I, awakens in a hospital bed after being caught in the blast of an exploding artillery shell. He gradually realizes that he has lost his arms, legs, and all of his face (including his eyes, ears, teeth, and tongue), but that his mind functions perfectly, leaving him a prisoner in his own body.

Joe attempts suicide by suffocation, but finds that he had been given a tracheotomy which he can neither remove nor control. At first Joe wishes to die, but later decides that he desires to be placed in a glass box and toured around the country in order to show others the true horrors of war. Joe successfully communicates these desires with his doctors by banging his head on his pillow in Morse code. However, he realizes that neither desire will be granted, and it is implied that he will live the rest of his natural life in his condition.

As Joe drifts between reality and fantasy, he remembers his old life with his family and girlfriend, and reflects upon the myths and realities of war.

My first Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles figure? Usagi Yojimbo. Imagine the confusion on 6-year old Olivertwisted’s face. Who was this rabbit and why is he a samurai? He’s never been in the show? Is he a friend or a foe? There were more than a few awkward conversations held on the playground arguing Usagi’s legitimacy in the TMNT universe.

Sadly, our story doesn’t have a happy ending. Like many of my 2nd tier TMNT figures, Usagi was lost in the woods along the perimeter of my school’s playground.
